Re: OTT in NZ
New Zealand, to me, is the final frontier.   I add my voice in the fascination with how it continues to be on the cusp of the transformation as they are.     There are lessons to be learned by others around the World no doubt.....

Re: OTT in NZ
@dcawrey - personally, I don't really include the cost of my internet in with what I pay to have the cord cut. Because whether I had cable or not, I'd still be paying for internet. Which I think is the case for most people, at this point in our society, internet is a fairly required utility.

Though in looking it up on Google, it seems like the cost of internet in New Zealand is actually pretty similar to what I'm paying for internet here in the States.

Re: OTT in NZ
I bet New Zealand is a great market for Netflix. It is English speaking, which means a lot of its content already translates over to that market.

Interesting information about transit costs. I would have imagined that internet costs would be a lot more, but I guess that's the price to pay in such a remote place.

OTT in NZ
I think it's a fair argument to wonder if people are willing to pay the same price for another media service, so long as it isn't to the provider that continually racked up their prices for the last few years. "I'm leaving X Company and I don't care what it costs me!" I think everyone needs to just cut the cord, but that's just me, and I know there are people that hang on to cable for their own reasons. It's crazy to think with a population like New Zealand's, Netflix only has a million subscribers, but that's already 20% of the population. They should be able to get to 50% in no time!

Re: OTT in New Zealand
@clrmoney, one wonders how much of this is curiosity over the novelty of access as well?  Or is it discerning value?

I agree with Ardi though about cord-cutting and moving away from the perpetual increases to the freedom to select the package they want at a lower cost.

New Zealand's high cost could make it a unique market that does not represent current trends.

OTT in New Zealand
OTT has a lot to offer and them being in New Zealand just adds more customers and reveune for them. They did a lot in Decemeber 2010 with Netflix at $1,066,000.00.
