Re: SDN discussion
I agree with the view on open source.

Enterprises are still struggling with this model. They are used to proprietary systems supported by proprietary developers. It's such a cultural change it's still going to take a while to fully implement.

Re: SDN discussion
dcawrey,

Not just struggling with the cultural change, but also trying to see whether the move to open/cloud structures actually does anything for their mission. This has been a problem as long as there's been a data processing industry. Organizations want to do their jobs better, and better data processing can help, but for most of them better data processing is the means, not the end. Unfortunately they are swarmed by salescritters, engineers, gurus, and sometimes outright charlatans for whom it's the ultimate goal, end, and meaning. Naturally they've developed an extensive set of defenses.

Re: SDN discussion
It's totally true that enterprises can't go after every solution presented to them. I can only imagine the deluge of "salescritters" trying to sell something that just won't be a fit for particular systems. It's really unfortunate when companies buy something that just isn't a fit for them, that's for sure.

Re: SDN discussion
Don't know how true it is, but I know an old, one-time MIS director of a sizable tech company who claims that one April fools day, he sent out a memo corporate wide asking if anyone had any ideas for where they might look for a vendor for three random three-letter combinations (say one of them was XYZ), and was still getting sales calls from companies saying that they had XYZ-compliant or XYZ-compatible products and services by the next April Fool's day.

SDN
Companies will have to conduct a feasibility study to determine if SDN is the right choice for their current and future needs versus implementing a technology of solution because it is the latest "hot thing" on the market.

I agree totally with this post about the view on open source. Plus I really thought the interview with Caywood was awesome.  Caywood is a great leader in this industry.  As I understand that companies will need to conduct a study just to determine if SDN is the right choice for them.

OpenDayLight's Caywood Discusses SDN
This article is well written i enjoyed reading this but with the opendaylights discusion it will be a good time for them to work on the results. I also think that the SDN is greater than ever at this point of time.
