Hulu VR threaten
I don't know about the update app for VR Hulu since they already offer much. I guess they think the the more they offer to us the better it will be for them with this phone app. Well they may have a chance if they have a plan to make money from it.

Interesting...
I always wondered why home theater fanatics upgraded their setups with speakers all over their living room when they could just invest in some really fancy headphones....

I suppose fancy headphones get expensive when guests come over to watch....

Re: Interesting...
<"Millennials are lazier, less interested in theaters> I'm a bit surprised to see that put quite so bluntly. It could have been couched in more positive terms. Do Millenials consider themselves lazier than people from previous generations?

Re: Interesting...
I don't think Millenials have labeled themselves the "laziest" generation.. but they're so lazy that they've let other generations give them that label. /rimshot

@Ariella:

1) That presumes he has any.

2) Why not?  What are they gonna do?  Make an angry hashtag about it?  As long as he doesn't get caught in a Burn-All-the-Things-to-Protect-Our-Safe-Spaces riot, he'll be fine.  ;)

@mhh: As much as I enjoy your quip, I think it's less about laziness as it is about complacency.  Their priorities are very different from those of Boomers, Gen Jones, Gen X, and even Gen Y.  (Yes, I do make that distinction.  There is a WORLD of difference between someone born in 1988 and someone born in 1998.)

@mhh: I have a pet theory that people who like loud things also actively enjoy sharing that loudness with others -- for better or worse.

Re: Interesting...
@Ariella: I'm just baffled at the assumption that being less interested in theaters comes from laziness.  There are a zillion reasons Millennials and non-Millennials alike may avoid movie theaters.

On the Millennial side, I think it comes down more to the widely studied and acknowledged Millennial preference for a personal screen when viewing video.

There's also cost, gross and unsanitary conditions, rude patrons, deafening new sound technology (although I acknowledge some consider this factor a plus), and the general hassle of arranging with multiple people going to the movies.

And we all have realized by this point that, on the romance side, movie dates -- at least in the beginning of dating -- are terrible because you're staring in the same direction sitting still instead of getting to know each other or interacting with each other.

You may as well sit at home and do that.  And I think Millennials are smart enough to realize that.

Lazy?  What a weird and strange conclusion, indeed.  I agree.

Another Blow to Theaters
The theater industry did this to themselves by pricing themselves out of the market. This is the way markets work and we have seen an increasing number of theater have to close their doors for good. To take my kids to a movie and buy popcorn and a drink it's $50 bucks; a hulu subscription and fresh popcorn and soda cost a signifigant amount less. The only reason to go to a theater any more is for the ambiance that some theaters have worked really hard to create.
