Re: Network predictions
@dcawrey, true - few are following his model of success!  The leaders will, however, and Apple will contribute to thrive through innovation.  Today companies either innovate or become a commodity - at far less return on investment.  It's their choice.

Re: Network predictions
@DHagar, thank you for your comment. You are absolutely right. Moving into new territories like 5G requires a scalable and intelligent network that is optimized for SDN and NFV. Having this kind of liquid infrastructure in place, that can flex bandwidth in real-time, is the first step to effectively deliver everything we look for in connectivity, like speed, security and reliability.

Re: Network predictions
@dcawrey, thank you for your comment. It's no secret customer care has been an ongoing challenge for network operators, both from consumer and enterprise perspectives. Today, the customer must come first, with a focus on delivering true local presence and agility for enterprises that are global yet need local attention.

Re: Network predictions
@Carl, that is where you folks are on the right track.  Your network enables users to have all those elements, which greatly contributes to the better services and functionality.  Trying to get there in other incremental modes will not be as successful, in my opinion.

Do  you see us as continually moving into network evolutions as opposed to "staged" new network designs?

Re: Network predictions
@Carl, that is the "secret sauce".  Being able to focus on the customer and solve their problems is KEY.  The providers that do not do that will just become another commodity, trying to distinguish themselves on limited functionalities.

Another vote for bandwidth
For me the takeaway from the article is that all the other attractive changes -- better more responsive consumer service, reduction of internetwork barriers, greater use of the cloud -- rest on more bandwidth. I think Mr. Grivner's focus is dead on: the need for and the deployment of bandwidth is about to become a revolution in how we think about business enterprises.

I'd only add that the processing-side equivalent -- throughput -- will probably become another important area, just as soon as there's enough bandwidth to allow us to see that problem as well.

Re: Network predictions
I can see not wanting to take a risk like that in the case that it wouldn't work out. However sometimes you got to take risks in order to learn and move forward..

I agree! And I think either way you'll learn what works and what doesn't.
