Live Streaming Poll Results
You would think that the it's a game change changer would have more than 30% with the technology that is available today.

Re: Live Streaming Poll Results
Facebook is certainly making a push for live video to be a big part of its platform.

You can see this in the marketing dollars the company has been spending. Just yesterday, I saw a bus stop ad for Facebook Live video. User-generated content is going to be really good for the company's bottom line.

Re: Live Streaming Poll Results
Facebook Live is definitely huge, but I'm not the fan I once was. A lot of my friends use it for their MLM jobs, which is annoying. But aside from that I've been seeing stories about a woman who died while using Facebook Live, and the viewers just continued to watch her literally die in front of them, and no one contacted emergency services to help. Recently, an 18-year-old mother live streamed taping her two-year-old to a wall while she explained that you don't need to beat your kids. Not to mention the teenagers that beat up the special needs kid on Facebook Live. Apparently people seem to think it's a good idea to commit crimes while live streaming. It just boggles my mind, and I really just think it should go away. But I doubt that will happen.

@elizabethv for me facebbok is coin of both sides - good and bad... as on internet you could become anyone... to setup fake profile on facebook - you just need a burner phone with few cents on it to get conformation sms to activate the page... for me it a bit sad reality...

Re: Live Streaming Poll Results
@batye - I didn't even think about the ease of creating a fake Facebook page. Which would really, in my opinion, make Facebook Live a potentially very dangerous tool. Maybe I watch too many movies, but I can see someone choosing to create some kind of channel where they are actually killing people for the world to see. I just see it as giving people with bad intentions an audience, and some of them would thrive under that set of circumstances.

I think we'll see that with any form of communication. Kids would prank call when there were no mobile phones and social media and abusive calls were not unheard of. Much of that nastiness is now on social networks. I think you have to address these issues as you go along, though I agree, sound and visuals make this much more visceral than texts or even phone calls.

I'm a bit biased for live streaming now because I just wrote an article about its adoption for marketing.  It's possible that it will prove to be a passing fad, but for now it looks like the trend is really hot and will have enough momentum to keep going for a few years. Every day you hear about more and more events being streamed live. Just today Tech Crunch ran this: https://techcrunch.com/2017/01/23/twitter-partners-with-dick-clark-productions-to-live-stream-more-red-carpet-pre-shows/

@Ariella I think it's really interesting to see what Facebook is doing here. They paid Steelers WR Antonio Brown a six figure sum to use the Live platform, and he was ostracized for using it in what was supposed to be a private situation. I expect to read about more of these over time as Facebook wants traffic from this product.

Facebook Live
I don't like Facebook Live because I want to focus on the task I am doing when on Facebook (reading posts, reading articles, etc.). I don't want to interrupted because my mouse accidentally moved over a live stream post. Then I have to stop when I am doing and hit the stop button on the live stream post. This is quite annoying.

Re: Facebook Live
@freehe - Interesting the difference between scrolling through Facebook on a phone versus a computer. 98% of the time I'm on Facebook I'm on my phone. Typically the videos just start playing when they come into view on my screen, but without any volume. And I prefer that. They only become annoying on the rare instance that I accidently push the play button, and then my bigger annoyance is with the sudden onslaught of noise coming from my phone, not the milli-second it takes for me to get back to my news feed and turn the video off.

Re: Facebook Live
@Ariella - are you aware of the type of advice they are giving to businesses that use it for marketing? A lot of my friends with MLM's will post onto Facebook Live fairly frequently. So obviously there are positive uses for the service, even if in general I find the videos annoying. Though I'm glad they have put them in their own section, and I only come across them if I choose to go look at them. Which has been very nice, in my opinion anyway.

Re: Facebook Live
@Ariella - That makes me wonder if they are as effective now that they show over in their own section, and not with the rest of the posts. I know I personally used to end up seeing at least part of their videos more when they were in my Main feed. Now that they are in their own section, I just click over there to get rid of the notification, then go right back to the Main feed, not even bothering to watch the video. Though if I really thought about it, I suppose I might if I had a little more spending money. Lol. I can't afford the majority of the stuff anyway, so I just don't even look anymore.

Re: Facebook Live
@elizabethv one of their claims is that audience engage with live video 10X as much as they do with others. That's particularly helpful for marketers, not just for the engagement itself but for the information it carries: what points in the video draw the most likes, what do the comments say, etc. Then they can work on how to those features may be applied to future videos for optimization.

Re: Facebook Live
@Ariella - I would definitely agree with that, people are far more interactive with live videos than they are other types of content. Not to mention it gives the creator of the video the ability to interact with the viewers much more easily than any other type of content. I do enjoy participating in polls on Live Videos, though it's annoying that you have to hang on through the entirety of the video to see the results. (Or go back and check later.) Either way, there are definitely positives to Live Video. Though with it being more interactive I really wonder why no one called 911 when that lady died on a Live Video. You'd really think at least 1 person would have.

Re: Facebook Live
@freehe - I'm not really the biggest fan either. Like you, when I'm on Faceb ook, I just want to see the posts and articles. I have yet to have come across an actual Facebook Live video that I really wanted to see. It's mildly entertaining when news sites hold a poll on the videos, but overall they still aren't that exciting. Still, just because I don't see them as having value, doesn't mean others don't or can't. So I support their existence. I just wish there was some way to catch videos with harmful content a little sooner.

Re: Live Streaming Poll Results
@clrmoney - I suppose in the aspect that Facebook Live has caused people to put questionable content online - even more questionable than had been on there previously, I think in the end the most it is going to be used for doesn't really "change" the game. Though I would imagine that phrase would mean something different for all of us. Some news stations have been using Facebook live for polls, which I think is an interesting way to make the audience a more active part of the story. But I don't know that It will end up making more people watch the news, or even feel more involved in the broadcast.

Network of Live Streaming
This is great for those who watch live streaming. I don't watch live streaming while it is happening. I like On Demand and like to watch content on my own time when I get ready.

Live Streaming may increase on social media but not at the levels projected. There are too many other variables and too much content to keep viewers focused on live streaming. Also, it uses too much data on smart phones, then there is the problem of buffering and other technical challenges such as sound issues, etc.

Live Streaming will grow as an industry and peak to a certain point and then flatten out like many other technologies and remain stagnant.
