Re: The New Norm
@afwriter - Yes, I would think that the lull comes with the market being saturated with people already owning a specific device, but eventually those devices will need to be replaced.

Re: CTA Unveils 2017 Forecasts
@Adi  I can't see myself paying that kind of money for a phone that is probably not that much different than the iPhone6. AT&T is offering the 7 for free if you switch to its service and have DIRECTV, but I think it's based on building up some kind of credits before the phone actually becomes free. Anyway, I think that promotion is ending soon.

The New Norm
<Product volumes are flat or down in key categories, such as smartphones, PCs and TVs. In fact, even tablet sales are projected to fall 10% in 2017>

I have to believe that we have reached a point in our society where, even if a certain technology drops, it will only drop 10% at the most. We have become reliant on our phones and computers and it is not like people are going to stop buying those things which have a 3 - 5 year shelf life at most. 2017 may see a slight lull, but I would not find these numbers disconcerning.

Re: CTA Unveils 2017 Forecasts
This makes me think of the stuggles Apple is facing.

For the first time in a while, the company came out with a consumer product that wasn't a blockbuster. The Apple Watch simply wasn't a catrgory buster - most people don't even wear watches anymore.

Re: CTA Unveils 2017 Forecasts
@srufolo1 - I think processing power increases are also slowing down, so the old devices run longer - don't get overwhelmed as quickly by newer, faster, more demanding apps designed for newer computers. And frankly, this stuff is getting increasingly expensive, and incomes aren't rising. The top of the line iphone 7+ is more than nine hundred pounds.

CTA Unveils 2017 Forecasts
People are probably waiting for the Next Big Thing to come along before they invest again in technology. PCs and laptops, even some smartphones are starting to get ho-hum and arent really captivating consumers anymore. I can see why wearables will bring in a big piece of the revenue pie, especially the activity tracking devices. People are into staying fit. My sister just received a Ringley as a gift. Instead of a FitBit worn around the wrist, it's an activity-tracking ring. Now that's pretty cool.
