3 years
At least three years? Wow, I would have thought that in our fast-paced world they would try to get things out faster than that!

AT&T 5G and Direct TV
AT&T can do almost anything and them being with Direct VV just merans more revenue and for the customers. It's the 5g video that would be more fast and accurate for us.

Re: 3 years
Three years isn't actually that long... It's taken a similar amount of time for 3G to transition through the various incarnations of 4G and LTE wireless standards.

There are still a lot of new cell towers to deploy for 5G! At least this is faster than fiber deployments! (which happen slowly, if at all...)
With these speeds, fiber won't ever be deployed in many locations.

Re: 3 years
@mhhf1ve - I am with you on this assessment. These are rapid developments and deployment of the new technology and solutions 5G offers.
Their leadership and partnerships are truly going to advance the markets and the solutions. I believe they will contribute greatly to the adoption of 5G and markets still developing fiber will shift to 5G.

Re: 3 years
@DHagar - And we're not even mentioning that fiber deployments will be necessary to support the 5G wireless backhaul.. without the underlying fiber infrastructure, there will be no place for the wireless traffic to go! So 3 years is actually quite quick, even for a partial deployment.

Re: 3 years
@Ariella I am with you, I feel like 3 years is a long time, especially since we've been talking about it for over a year now. I guess you can't rush progress and it is one of those things that will happen when it happens and we will look back and think it wasn't all that long of a wait.

Re: 3 years
Rome wasn't built in a day.. and neither will widespread 5G coverage be. It's just not that easy/cheap to roll out. Maybe if the spectrum licensing wasn't connected to billion-dollar auctions, there might be more funds to shift into the actual hardware deployment? :P

Re: 3 years
@mhhf1ve - great points! I believe that 5G will deliver enough new value to truly drive and sustain these developments.

Re: 3 years
Very cool to see these projects moving forward.
In addition, Austin is a perfect city for this technology. Its population is young and tech savvy. I'm sure AT&T will learn a bunch from its experience there.
