Re: Will VNFs Align in 2017?
I think "alignment" and "normalization" will require vendors to further open VNF platforms. At its heart, VNF is all about software. And we no longer live in a proprietary world. Open source development is going to be the answer.

Will VNFs Align in 2017?
The big question today is will VNFs align in 2017. I believe that with all the success I do think so. With SDN and NFV going at there full potential also with VNF at full potential there will be huge success in business and it also be the biggest production level stage. I do believe they will align and step it up in the near future.

Re: VNF 2017
While it is more than logical to start building VNFs in a closed way, it's certainly time to open this stuff up. I totally agree that these systems will be a series of blocks that people compile together. Will we start seeing that in 2017? I have a strong feeling we will.

I am not really sure about sideways, but all the virtual functions will grow as the time advances.  It will get a lot better for everyone as the times continues to go by.  There will be many upsides for venders in the future.

At least not backwards! The expansion into different functions isn't necessarily a forward move for equipment folks, but if there's some growth to the functionality? Maybe then there will be some upside for equipment vendors.

@Mike so not positive in the direction but still instrumental in unifying different strands?

Re: sideways?
I don't think he meant to imply it was positive, but rather part of the problem. We end up with vendors out of their areas of expertise, but his point was that the platform would unify them.

sideways?
<"I do think that with the equipment folks many of them are seeing virtualization as a way to move sideways,"> I'm not sure what he means here. Sideways movement does not usually connote something positive, the way forward movement does.
