Does anyone really watch video in real time anymore?
I doubt live streaming will be a huge thing because it just takes so much "real time" to watch... If you watch live streaming, that's one for one taking time away from living your actual life!

Okay, people can multitask... but I think I'll continue to time-shift videos and watch them at 2x speed on Youtube...

Looks like I am a "minority of one" as I view this is a game changer.     I note this based on my own experience trying to watch the live Apple announcements and watching it on an iPhone was "needless to say" very frustrating.  The need to transform mobile networks to deal with such traffic is absolutely paramount.

@mhhf1ve I agree with you. I think live streaming via social will be more novelty than game-changer. There might be more to social video if archived versions were available after live broadcast. I don't see a lot of value in live video because of the time it takes up.

Live Events are live events--we can always go to "YouTube" to catch archives.      One has to be on the "platform" all the team to be able to take advantage of it.   I cite, as an example, Secretary Kerry's speech this morning--I got notified thru the Haaretz App that it had begun--I was at my Office before heading out to a meeting--I did not "necessarily
need to be at a Mobile to catch it--I would only note this in the end:  It depends!! :) :)

@Michelle, I agree I don't see the value in it either. Live streaming will not blow up mobile.

Re: Does anyone really watch video in real time anymore?
Live Streaming will not have a huge impact on mobile. Most people watch videos from video providers such as YouTube, Amazon Prime, Hulu or other companies. Most people mult-task and those that do watch from social media apps at least during the day are doing so while at work and while performing so other task so there isn't necessarily a demand for it, it is just a nice-to-have feature.

@freehe Do you think people are at all concerned about data usage? Has public wifi expanded enough that people don't even watch out for data overage?

Does everyone really watch video in real time anymore?
My personal thoughts based on me is that I don't watch videos in real time and I don't think it will be a huge problem at all.  Really how many of you watch real time videos?  I chose to watch everything either on Youtube or my Amazon Prime video.  As we all know every live event is always there to pull up from Youtube anytime and as many times as you would like to watch it.

"Significant"
I voted "Significant" but wasn't entirely happy with all of the choices here -- as I mean "significant" only in the statistical sense.  I don't think it will be as big as YouTube, but I hardly think it's going to be a bust.

Re: Does everyone really watch video in real time anymore?
@dchampagne: Livestreaming -- except for people with notable online brands / podcasts -- tends to primarily attract niche audiences/content (e.g., gamers).  While these markets are significant, I wouldn't expect to see a large amount of your Facebook friends to start livestreaming from their mobile devices anytime soon.
