Fox and their changing climate
Fox is one one of the most watch national new broadcast channels and I'm not sure about the climate change and I don't think that is the issue I think it's other things involved etc.

One challenge they have is  demographics--which is part of the broad challenge Fox has.     Cord Cutting is a reality and the sooner that they adapt--the better.   I still wonder if they have the backbone to do so.

Let's not forget that Fox was a failing station some 20 years ago, being beat down by the big 3, when they made a surprising move to snatch an NFL deal that rocketed them into competition.  Since then they have built a solid network including their Sunday Night lineup which by itself has to garner the company millions and maybe even billions every year.  My point is that if anyone is going to survive the changing climate it will most likely be 21st Century Fox.

They beat the odds-no doubt.    I also suggest that some of their rather interesting programming (Including the Simpsons & 24) had to do with them being on the cutting edge.   The challenge for them (as with all content providers) is to sustain it to stay on the edge of change.

Hopefully, Fox will spend money on other types of shows versus sporting events because cord cutting is here to stay. Many viewers do not watch sporting events as much as they used to and I suspect this will continue to decline especially for cable tv viewers who don't want to pay for a sports package.

@frehe - yes, it does seem that sports programming is taking a bit of a hit. Even sure fire sporting events like football and soccer have dropped ratings this year. I wrote on this topic previously but plan to do a follow up on it shortly.

@Adi, yes there are too many options for viewing content and too many ways to view content. The average viewer's attention span has greatly declined and broacasters and sports companies must change their business models to keep up with want viewers want and their viewing habits.

Developing new ways to monetize investment seems to be the key. Netflix' all you can eat model (from the days of mail-in DVDs) was pretty revolutionary, and Spotify is another example of shaking up existing revenue models. But it's tricky finding ways to create new revenue, and it's tough to innovate without that lined up first. In that sense, small, new start-ups have an advantage -- they have nothing to lose.

On the flip side - as we've seen with Amazon - older companies with deeper pockets can afford to take more risks.
