Re: Norwegians Over the Top
I completely agree. It'll be interesting to see what Netflix is able to do. It would be cool if they were able to reach other countries.

Re: Norwegians Over the Top
@dcawrey - I think the advantage they have is that they can spread that investment across millions of subs. globally. They will probably need to develop better, more efficient ways to subtitle their content and get it out to other regions, but in a lot of countries dubbing will be required -- subtitles are not acceptable in Germany, Hungary etc. culturally. That's a bit more complicated.

And of course, they have to keep producing hits and growing their subscriber base -- any stumbles there and suddenly they are in a $5 billion hole.

Re: Captive audience
There's the Bergman movie effect -- in which a two-hour film feels like it goes on for six or seven hours. But I'm guessing the studies account for that.

Re: Norwegians Over the Top
As Netflix moves into new regions such as Europe, they are going to have to spend a substantial amount of money on content.

This can be done, but I would suspect it will mean a lot of pressure on the company to produce hits similar to what TV networks have to do.

Re: Captive audience
Hahaha, good point, I wonder if there are any other cultural factors involved as well.  I.E. the water cooler effect.

Captive audience
With 10-month winters and 18-hour nighttimes, it's not so surprising that Nordic denizens are on the leading edge of OTT consumption.

Norwegians Over the Top
I'm surprised that the Norwegians are the bigeest OTT Over the Top spenders considering that this is a foreign country well times change and use it for TV viewing pay tv etc.
