Great job! Gotta run!

Thanks for your insight

Platinum

Ok, I've got to run. I'll check back in a few days and answer any additional questions that might come up. Thanks everyone for participating!

Do you see the development of IoT as creating great demand for network as a service?

Yes I can see an environment where controlling IoT devices via an SDN platform would make a lot of sense, but I haven't seen that in practice (yet).

Author

Thanks Mike and John - great session.

Author

Thanks - great info!

Platinum

Thanks everyone, and thank you John. I know you've got to run.

It's intersting to see that the partner ecosystem is so important in the poll. I will be sure to point our product management team to this!

Author

nice to see a busy room today -- looks like I missed the live presentation (no audio at the moment)

Platinum

Do any forums, collaborative groups or partnerships exist to support the development of the technology, resolve issues and create standards?

I am not directly involved with that side of things, I will brush up on it for our next show! I know Orange has been involved in many initiatives along this line. I probably emphasized it too much, but the financial model of VNFs is equally important and that's probably developed through competition more than any standards body.

Author

John,  great point - that should be factored into the ROI to realize the full value.

Platinum

Thanks, John.  Along with mindset - do you think there is also a lack of skills to fully develop?

I didn't mention this, but YES! We have a whole industry of people who are used to working in a CLI environment, the concepts around virtualization and orchestration require a completely different skill set.

Author

What are some quick wins that have been achieved using network as a service?

There are definitely cost savings to be had, but I think the automation is the real positive here. The time to deploy is so painful, removing that barrier is going to improve so many things

Author

Thanks, John.  Along with mindset - do you think there is also a lack of skills to fully develop?

What are the biggest hurdles to getting transformation to viewing network as a service?

Really it's about changing the mindset of "I need a box". It will take some time to get used the idea that we have multifunction boxes with VNFs from multiple providers. I don't see a lot of resistance, it's more about getting used to the new terminology and thinking through the implications.

Author

Great session, lots of terrific information from a well-informed perspective.

Another: What are some quick wins that have been achieved using network as a service?

Author

Why has this been more accepted in the United States than in other countries?

My opinion is because the SD WAN providers are primarily here in the US, they are pushing their messages here harder than in other regions. This naturally migrates to discussions around SDN/NFV.

Great job, Mike and John

If you've got questions, now is the time to send them through. We'll take a few questions at the end of the interview before we go into the live chat.

How is SDN changing network security strategies?

Author

Interesting that vCPE debate is getting more real and practical - the cost of the solution versus the cost of current options matters a lot.

Why does he think this has taken off in the US faster than other parts of the world, esp. western Europe?

Author

Great question - bit of a land grab at the moment. Hot area, vendors rushing in.

Author
