Re: UHD
This reminds me of when LTE first came out for mobile phones.

People can't keep track of these acronyms; there's simply too many of them. Hopefully when it comes to UHD this Alliance will help to keep things simple for everyone.

Re: Broadcast vs. IP
@msilbey - good point, but they have taken a consious decision to steer clear of streaming at the moment. I think right now the goal is just to certify as many qualified devices as they can and evangelize the Ultra-HD premium logo. Consumer communciation is ususally up to the individual device manufacturers and retailers.

Re: UHD
@mike - I'm sure they will market the certfication, but usually in the CE space, its the manufacturers who get behind it and maybe the CTA itself. But mostly the TV manufacturers and retailers. So they'll start marketing the certification and educating customers. It's not always been effective, we've had confusion around HD-ready in the past and with growing online sales, it could be problematic.

Broadcast vs. IP
Is there a role for the UHD Alliance in educating consumers on IP-based 4K TV versus broadcast 4K TV? I imagine many are wondering why they can get Netflix shows in 4K/UHD, but virtually none of their traditional network TV programs.

Makes sense in theory
The plan makes sense - provide one single logo/stamp that lets consumers know that this TV will give you a great experience - it has all the good, cutting edge technology stuff you don't understand in it, and here's a certification to prove it. The only danger is that the UHD Premium stamp itself becomes confusing stuff, lost in other confusing stuff.

Sounds like a good plan. How will it educate consumers?
