Part ll 4K UHD and virtual reality
I like when they talk about virtual reality but it was mainly about the 4K UHD when it comes to TV and mobile devices for customers etc.

@clrmoney - yes, I think VR is generating considerable excitement, but there isn't much clarity around it. UHD seems to be on it's way, though bandwidth issues continue to be worrying. VR will also face bandwidth issues, but I think with VR the use cases aren't really clear. Will people really want every video experience to be 360 degree immersive...maybe, but maybe not.

As it was noted that the pace of acceleration was speeding up ever more, the question is to what end? It is dizzying--I guess that's the message as underscored by Adi's comments on PokeMon Go.

@Adi, that Nasa joke was a real groaner. Thanks for the great article, you have me looking up 80 inch 4K TV prices now. Hopefully I can exercise enough self control to wait until the prices drop a little further.

@afwriter, couldn't resist. Groaned myself while typing it, but just couldn't stop myself!
I would wait till Dec for that TV, or Jan if you can do it. Black friday will likely push UHD TV prices down pretty aggressively this year. And you should have HDR 10 at least on most sets, so should really be able to see the difference.

@mpouraryan I think the prices will have to come down a little more. I am not really worried about the content coming out. Much like many technologies, "if you build it, they will come."

For sure--no doubt!! If Amazon Kindle Tablet's pricing is a harbinger, I am sure TV will be the same. I suppose the sky will continue to be the limit as we're witness to this continued transformation.

@mpouraryan - I'm not sure people will have a choice for much longer. I think its going to start getting harder and harder to find anything but UHD TVs in stores from next year.

Progress is always good and exciting to be witness to. As long as it is affordable and practical--that's the key driving force as I see it.

Affordable to whom? (And not affordable to whomelse?) and practical for what?
Look at the crowd at any big sports event nowadays; how many have a screen at hand to show them what is happening in the game, because they've lost the ability to see and appreciate the game from a cheap seat.
And if income is a bell curve for most of the population, then it's an interesting property that out by the low-end tail, small changes in the price of access produce very large percentage changes in people denied access.

Since you asked--the 99% who can't necessarily afford the latest gadgets that the current luminaries of the tech world seem to endow us with. The 1% who can afford the $ 500 Apple Watch, the $ 800 iPhone 7 with all the bells & whistles et. al certainly won't lose sleep over it--right? That's the key challenge--I trust you agree.

HD tv is great but is really not necessary unless you work for NASA, the military or CIA where employees need to view clearly crisp images. TV viewers don't care about high resolution that allow you to see an actor's wrinkles or pimples.
UHD is definiltey a better option. However, the industry must decide what technology will be used in the future so consumers will not have to purchase a new TV each time a new technology is introduced.
