Couldn't agree more!

It's important to train new people and have them understand the ins and outs of the new developments and the company. Relying on people and having good people on the team is what really makes a business.

Re: DevOps Goes Mainstream
@freehe, absolutely!  I believe the smart companies recognize that and effectively utilize and continue to develop their human capital.  That is why the leading companies are able to attract and retain the best - they recognize the value.

Re: DevOps Goes Mainstream
@freehe, I believe it reflects the development potential that has not taken place.

AT&T is a leader and is opening up new options, but many companies have still not developed the "capability" to fully use the value of DevOps and are just taking small steps.  When those taking small steps within the current capabilities see the opportunities, I believe the markets will develop more fully - that is where I believe the potential lies.

Re: DevOps Goes Mainstream
Companies should always focus on training in-house talent. This helps improve morale, retain employees, increase productivity and increase the overall knowledge base of employees who can then perform multiple duties or more complex duties.

These statistics are shocking given the previous articles and innovative work done by other countries.

@dcawrey, good points and I agree.  Let's hope they can clearly demonstrate the return on that investment and change the thinking that human capital is an important asset.

Re: DevOps Goes Mainstream
I think it is great to hear that AT&T is dedicated to developing in-house talent.

A lot of companies are coming to the realization it is probably better to try and develop talent for their specific culture rather than simply bring in outside elements.

Re: DevOps Goes Mainstream
@Kelsey Ziser, and not the easiest thing to accomplish!  The ability to bring the cross-functional teams together to make "different" decisions and build a culture around those new decisions takes it to an entirely new level - but that is where the opportunity is.
