There are some specific areas addressed in the AT&T piece that outlines the different culture that I believe provides one key. And that is the cross-functional teams that are formed to develop a one-team solution that works across the board. This appears to be a consistent characteristic of leading DevOps teams. It clearly is different than just a design that predominantly focuses on one domain versus another. It represents a "transformative" design and results in new products. Also, in AT&T interview, they outline that this is a building process with new training for all participants. That is a major investment in building inhouse "intelligence" and building the capability to work together. I am wondering if that is possibly isolated to the sector of telecomm and that they are developing DevOps capabilities in other areas? One would think the Huawei's, Samsung, etc., would be leaders in this area. Maybe also is the size of our markets? Worth further study! The ability to "produce" better products faster is truly a competitive capability that should continue to drive sales/services.
