Re: Turf War?
@Ariella, I think you are right!  They have a clear strategy, and have developed the capabilities to fully implement.

Re: Turf War?
@Adi, my "unofficial" research leads me to the same conclusion.  I believe AT&T has a wider platform and is in a stronger position.

Re: Turf War?
@Mike, exactly - key point!  And when you consider the international markets and the global adoption, those markets may develop faster.

Re: Turf War?
It's interesting - I'm sure there is at least some of that involved. But - and clearly I don't have quite enough data to back this very speculative statement - I do think AT&T is a bit more globally oriented than VZ. AT&T went with GSM when VZ was CDMA, and its been working on its the global SIM (though admittedly for cars). So I would have said it was the more likely of the two to push for global standards.

Re: Turf War?
It will be interesting, and we can't forget that this is playing out globally as well. I know I tend to just think about companies such as Verizon and AT&T.

Re: Turf War?
@Mike, I share with the other comments that this is a good thing.  But I do believe it is a shot at Verizon.  One wonders who is on the right track - is Verizon going it alone or is AT&T.  I note from your article that AT&T appears to have a broad number of leading companies involved - if so, and if they are representing the market, they may come out the winner with standards that are market wide as opposed to company focused?

This will be interesting to watch!

Turf War?
It would seem as though AT&T is trying to define 5G in contrast to what Verizon is doing. Is this a shot at Verizon? "interim and fragmented pre-standard specifications can distract from the ultimate goal" More 5G info here.

AT&T continued growth
They should have the 5G=5 gigabytes resolved for customers who use the services and the companies. But I think it will all work out in the end.

5G
I think that's great. We've been hearing a lot about 5G's potential in the past year or two. AT&T is now taking steps to make it a reality.
