Re: IoT PaaS Analytics
Agreed!

Getting things out before the next competitor does is very crucial. Although it has to be able to be a decent product. Putting out a bad product quickly won't mean anything.

Re: Are they putting the cart before the horse?
You are absolutely right, Verizon is making their proactive move here instead of waiting for something to happen and then react. No doubt that is really a good practice as at this age it may be too late by the time things get to reactive mode. Another competitors may have addressed that proactively already.

Re: IoT PaaS Analytics
I think that is critical to be part of this competitive world. I don't think any company has affordability to just do one thing at a time in recent times. Most of the companies have dedicated teams working in their R&D.

Re: IoT PaaS Analytics
I do think that they need to keep focus on one project at a time, but you're right they can do it if they keep focused and do everything in a timely manner.

Re: IoT PaaS Analytics
Trying to work on two different innovative features at one is commendable but not smart.

Sometimes this could turn out to be smart. All it needs is dedicated teams per initiative and the coordination and information sharing between the teams.

Re: IoT PaaS Analytics
The key to innovation is to implement one product at a time, get that product working seamlessly then add any additional features or new services.

@freehe: Agree. But this can not be a hard and fast rule. Some times it makes sense to run parallel tracks for diffreent initiatives in essence of time.

IoT PaaS Analytics
Verizon is doing too much at one time. They don't have any standards, market share or influence on IoT. It is too new of an field and now that want to implement something else. I think this will fail.

Re: Are they putting the cart before the horse?
PaaS is really the classic example of a "solution in search of a problem," and the classic solution to that is to make it widely available and let users find things to use it for (within living memory, nobody could imagine why anyone would need a computer in their homes; and remember that one of the developers of the laser rightly forecast that within 25 years there would be lasers in every home in the developed world but refused to predict what they would be doing. (Playing music?  REALLY?) )

This is even more the case with an intellectual tool.  If you're going to fly in informational fog (and what business doesn't?), you need informational intstruments. Learning what they're good for is best accomplished by giving them access to them.

Re: Are they putting the cart before the horse?
It almost seems to me like they trying to make demand for this. Verizon doesn't want to wait for something to happen; they'd rather be in front of it.

When you're dealing with a competitor like AT&T, I think that is the right strategy.
