Well. Hopefully, with more competition, the value proposition will improve for communication services. Google and Facebook have a shot at disrupting the wireless data industry if they can get their wireless drones and balloons up and running. We might have to wait for 6G wireless to be a mainstream standard before that happens though...

Facebook is definitely a leader in the market. Other companies can follow their model and adapt as needed.

Companies need to collaborate and provide support to the development teams for disaggregated networks. It can take a long time to develop a new product or service no matter how much features have been implemented to save time and money. Companies need to stop trying to rush to market and focus on deliverying quality products and services.

A key component of implementation is executive support, engaging employees, showing employees how it will make their job easiers and implement measures to help the shift the company culture and learning curve.

What is clear is that is the traditional HW players are going to have even more of a challenge before them.   They seem to continue to have a profound challenge adapting to this "new normal" not withstanding the positive spin out of Dell, IBM et. al

In the end, I really would like to think that these projects are going to lower costs -- that could be passed along to customers. Somehow, though, I'm a bit pessimistic that end users will see much in the way of cheaper services. Higher profits for ISPs, though, might make it easier for them to expand their networks (even if prices don't fall at all).

Network Devices as Servers
Great read. I think Facebook has done a great job rethinking what a network really is. They've been able to do that because they had to start from the ground up.

For other companies, this kind of thinking really requires a culture change. Some organizations can do it, some not. I think we're going to see who can and cannot very, very soon.
