Re: IoT
Yes true and it's so scary! I hope that in the future there will be ways to stop these hackers. I feel like the opposite might happen however. Hacks will become more and more prevalent.

Re: Verizon Beefs Up IoT
freehe,

I'd be willing to bet, though, that the smart competitors will instead develop products and services to cooperate, collaborate, and coordinate.  In the modern telco world, "If you can't beat them, join them" has been replaced by, "Don't waste time trying to beat them; just join them right away."

Re: IoT
I think it will turn into a "Hackers Paradise" and entice some new people to start hacking their homes/lives. (Using "hacker" in it's original, benovolent sense)

Re: IoT
@faryl, good analysis.  They are in a winning mode at the moment.  The true test will come with how well they execute and how strong a competitor they truly become.

Re: IoT
It will be interesting to see what kind of foothold being first will give them. Right now they have a head start, which means everything they do is "innovative".

Re: IoT
DHagar, the beauty of the computer is that its back-to-basic is not calculus and linear algebra, but plain old brute force. So the mathfolk can put all their subtlety and cleverness into correctly stating the problem rather than into solving it. "Machines should work; people should think."

Re: IoT
@JohnBarnes, great points about big data/analytics.  The user-driven applicability truly does unleash the speed and value of the technology.  The tools are increasingly available to develop the solutions the user needs and wants.

You also raise great points about the limits now are the human limits.  This takes us back to the basics of math and "thinking" through problem-solving.  We need to get back to the basics to gear up for the technological advancements.
