Thingspace API
I checked out the website. It seems promising.

Connectivity management, device messaging and personal cloud storage APIs are great paths to embark on. Everyone wants to connect their devices and integrate their servcies in the faster, easiest and most cost effective way possible.

Personal cloud storage is great for users with lots of content such as videos and pictures since most smartphones come with a little amount of data space.

Definitely talking a good game
Looking over the web page at http://thingspace.verizon.com/ it's like a high-level design for what you'd want in a developer package: very easy to find clear descriptions of the basic tools it offers. I especially like what they've got under APIs and their developer kits look like fun.  So they are going to attract the tinkerer community, which they absolutely must do.

Now let's see what the tinkerers say about the tools once they pick them up.  Getting what you need into the box is one (very fine and difficult) thing, but making sure it all meets or exceeds expectataions and desire is something else (even better and harder) again!

Good luck to them, though. For an old company with so much legacy system baggage, they're definitely trying to get to the frontier and do it well.

Promising endeavour
I'm really impressed with this approach from Verizon. We all know fragmentation can be a major issue in this space -- Verizon intends to do something about it. This is a great time to jump into such a project too.
