Re: Fiber in his plans
@clrmoney, that's a great suggestion.  The ability for private companies to then "connect" and provide services will set up recurring revenues.

Great progress and pretty impressive for a small country.

I was also wondering what the feasibility would be for private industry to also use the network to delivery goods and services and whether or not there could be private use of those networks, which would add another layer of revenues.

Amazing how the undeveloped countries continue to make progress by leaps and bounds!

Great Opportunity
It sounds like as a whole this will be nothing but beneficial to the country. The internet will open up the possibility of new jobs just with the data centers alone, not to mention the additional support needed. More than that, people will have the opportunity to seek new life experiences online that weren't possible without reliable internet service. It sounds like a good start and a stronger future.

Geography?
I wonder if the geography of Sri Lanka prevents attempts at a high speed wireless broadband network or not..?

Fiber is probably a better longer term investment..

Re: Fiber in his plans
Excellent news.

Building a robust broadband network in Sri Lanka will help foster economic activity, that's for sure. I can only hope that the government there recognizes the need for entrepreneurship. That paired with broadband capacity is really the right way to go.

Sir Lanka Fiber
Fiber can transform any company or in this instance country. Fiber provides secure communication, higher bandwidth, easier installations, lower maintenance costs, reduces safety issues and immunity from electronic magnetic interference.

Fiber will also increase revenues by reducing costs and expanding their customer base.

Re: Great Opportunity
@freehe - I can only hope this potential opportunity isn't ruined by someone trying to get rich on the backs of others. This offers the chance for many to get honest jobs that should equate to a decent living for them. Workers should be paid what they are worth, not the lowest amount they can get them for while someone sits in an office and rakes in all the profits.

Re: Sir Lanka Fiber
Good points. I especially think this is important because of the price factor. Lowering prices is so important especially if they want to expand and get more consumers.
