I just observe that there are places where old-style cronyism is still practiced, but not as many as there used to be, and places where it seems unthinkably quaint, and the former are dwindling and the latter are growing. But where we are in the changeover, whether we're almost done or just starting on the process -- no idea. Hint to any wandering billionaires: I could have a very good idea within a year or two, for just a few of those millions you may already have laying around the house. I also believe that where technology is becoming a tool for building information/asset and solving problems, as opposed to solely "purchase orders" for acquiring technology, this may help advance the transition.
