Re: IOT Future
Happy June and thanks for the kind sentiments @DHagar.

The challenge, as I see it (and we've discussed it) to make sure we continue to stay in charge.    Whether in fact this happens or not is the ultimate question--isn't it?

Onward..as I look forward to the on-going deliberations throughout the month.

Re: IOT Future
DHagar,

THE SHALLOWS is indeed a scary book. A fun exercise: look at the Amazon 1- and 2- star reviews of the book, and you will see a very large number of people who are having exactly the problems thinking that the book describes (and are really cheesed off that anyone thinks anything is wrong with that!)

Re: IOT Future
@JohnBarnes, I have read and thoroughly enjoyed The Shallows.  I think if we lose the ability to think we will all be in trouble.

Great intellectual stimulation - thanks!

Re: IOT Future
@mpouraryan, an outstanding example!  Thanks for sharing.

I believe this is where you will really see implementation take hold.  This is a great blend of machine and human intelligence!  Our favorite combination!

Hope you had a great Memorial Day!

Re: IOT Future
Michelle, CSER tends to worry about our having no descendants. That could happen of course but I think it's more likely we will have plenty of biological descendants -- we just won't understand them. Much of what we accomplish will be retold into our efforts leading up to their existence but in fact we not only won't have intended them to exist, we won't even grasp what matters to them.

Re: IOT Future
Michelle, The thing about epistemic change is that because people are fundamentally different afterward, it's pretty hard to imagine what it will feel like before. Various sci fi writers have tried to imagine the world after such a change but they almost always end up cheating about the changes in people it implies.

Re: IOT Future
@John This is the sort of existential demise CSER believes we'll see in the future, isn't it?

Re: IOT Future
@John I wonder if we'll be ready for the now unknown things when they become known.

I hope you're writing a book about these things unknown.

Re: IoT
Very well put. I too think that employees are becoming more and more aware of what is actually going on in their companies today. It's crucial to know how the business world along with the new technological advances.
