Proof
I think more than anything this proves that big data can translate to big money if it is used correctly.

Re: Proof
This is so true. And it looks like enterprises are getting into right direction by relying great deal on history data to set targets and make projections irrespective of domain.

Re: Proof
I agree. The key is turning all of that info into useful action items in a short amount of time. Lost of companies can collect data, but processing it into something meaningful will really unlock big data's potential.

@Mike:

Absolutely true.

Unless data is well translated and processed adequately the purpose will not be met.

Re: Proof
There's definitely an art to recognizing ways to connect data points into something meaningful.

I used to do data cleansing & analysis and one of the things that has stuck with me is how easy it is to build a larger, more detailed picture based on diverse data sets with a minimal amount of overlap.

Re: Proof
@ms.akkineni, and that produces more insights to serve the business interests, which translates into decisions that make business more profitable and provide better service.  I think the development of the data value to now serving the business use case is where that volume in growth will be seen.

Re: Proof
@ms.akkineni, well said.  That's where it becomes an asset.  I see the future optimized solution as being both increased machine/human intelligence.

These types of grand, sweeping "predictions" make for good copy, and triple-digit billion-dollar markets get attention. It's kind of stating the obvious, with guessed-at numbers providing the hard evidence. But just as you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows, you don't need a gigantic and arbitrary number to prove that analytics will be a growing market over the next few years.

@mendyk, there you go - data confirms the data!  At least it will make the "hesitant" ones more secure to believe the obvious.

Re: Big Data Revenues
@clrmoney, agreed, the data links to more data, which makes the "connected" data more valuable.  That's what I believe will be explosive with "connectivity" (ie IoT) linking data sources and multiple data sets.  The data will have greater value when connected with other data - which is why I believe networks, ecosystems, and platforms will become key.

Re: Big Data Revenues
Personally, the amount of data and it's related opportunities (especially revenue-driven/motivated) is one of my hesitations with respect to IoT - all it takes is matching your social security number, phone number, email, or facebook profile across multiple databases from various sources to put together a fairly complete picture of a person's life.

There's less & less of a need for mass surveillance with the increasing depth & breadth that integrating everyone's personal "micro surveillance" can provide.

(Big Brother doesn't need to be watching - he just needs to sit back and wait while give him all of the information he's looking for.)

Big Data
Companies are signing up for big data but they have not developed a strategic plan on how to acquire, analyze and utilize big data to help increase revenue, retain customers, increase customer service and expand services.

Big data is the hot topic right now. I would love to see some real solutions or outcomes of companies actually using big data to generate results.
