Provacative queston. My answer: Later than expected.  The telcos are still battling with each other establish a global standard and lobbying for their own technologies over their rivals - this could take years and years to define.

Arrive at an accelerated pace due to competitive pressures.  I believe it is so revolutionary that the move forward to 5G will truly transform the industry - driving further change.

I think that whether it arrives earlier or later, it would close enough to the target mark for the forecast to be proven, or not, depending on one's agenda. In other words, the signs of 5G that appear prior to 2020 can be taken to mean a faster arrival to fit a more bullish report. On the other hand, those who want to say it's not all that would likely be able to point out areas where it has not arrived even well into 2020.

  • Arrive in the 2020 timeframe, as many experts originally suggested.
  • Arrive at an accelerated pace due to competitive pressures.
  • Arrive early in name only—the early services won't be true 5G (but, rather, "faux G")
  • Arrive later than anticipated.
