..and it is driven by what Steve Case is referring to as "The Third Wave"--listening in on a conference call that Steve Case spoke at.    It is stunning and yet fascinating at the same time!!.

  • Arrive later than anticipated.

Did 3G, 4G, etc.. arrive "on time" as scheduled? I don't think wireless deployment has a great track record with so many flavors of it being promoted before being "accepted" as a standard protocol....

Re: Poll: 5G technology and services will...
@mhhf1ve: It certainly is a gradual process, that's for sure. I think that the dynamic here is that there is so much new stuff in 5G versus the fact that the industry is generally getting better at developing new tech. It will be interesting.

Absolutely, 2020 seems like too long. I can only predict many more evolutions and revolutions by then.

@cweinsch, thanks!  That's why  I think it will be sooner - as it will leave other solutions in the dust.

5G Catch Up
  • Arrive at an accelerated pace due to competitive pressures.

I would say 'Race Up' is the name of the game here. Everyone is just trying to push thsi out asap, though there could be issues for the first cut around. But that is not going to stop or make these mobile companies slow down. Instead they would be out with a version which would later be refined.

I wonder how T-Mobile is planning 5G...We didn't get to hear them here.

Re: 5G Catch Up
@Akkineni...Good point, and very reminescent of the birth of cable's involvement in data. They rushed a fast generation and subsequently started the DOCSIS program. First moves into a space are very valuable.

Fathom Neural Computer Stick - this sounds pretty cool. I will be interested to keep an eye when Movidius is ready to get out first 1000 devices as part if their first phase deployment.

Thanks @mpouraryan for sharing this information.

Excited
Personally, I'm just excited to see what's to come with 5G. There's been so much talk about it and I'm hoping my expectations haven't been blown up too big! But I really think 5G is going to be a game changer.
