Re: 5G Telco
That's the one thing I'm worried about with 5G. I'm hoping that the prices aren't super high. I know that 5G is going to be something great. I just hope the prices are somewhere where everyone can enjoy 5G.

5G Telco
5G may widen the gap between the leaders, niche players, challengers and visionaries. I am excited that 5G is being developed. I am concerned about what security measures if any will be implemented. Also, What will be the cost to customers? With each new product or service customers have to pay higher and higher fees. I want new technology but not it will cost me the same a car payment.

Re: Another driving factor ...
Ariella, I think most tech change costs enough to force at least a few firms off the field and as the tech gets higher and price per increment rises exponentially, this will only become more acute.

@JohnBarnes Excellent point. Do you think the cost would be too high for some businesses?

Another driving factor ...
Not mentioned so far, is straightforward old-fashioned planned obsolescence.  Some genuinely new and useful applications will need 5G to go mobile (and will need to be fully mobile). Most won't, and existing applications by definition get along without it. But this is a field where market saturation is always looming, and scheduled obsolescence is one reliable way to prevent it. The interesting problem is that the cost of obsolescence keeps going up; vastly more R&D is needed to make 5G better enough than 4G to drive people to change over, whereas 3G was a much bigger leap (and thus bigger pressure) for a much smaller investment.

The future is here--It will be quite exciting to see what they do with it.

Fun to be witness to history.

Excited
Personally, I'm just excited to see what's to come with 5G. There's been so much talk about it and I'm hoping my expectations haven't been blown up too big! But I really think 5G is going to be a game changer.

Fathom Neural Computer Stick - this sounds pretty cool. I will be interested to keep an eye when Movidius is ready to get out first 1000 devices as part if their first phase deployment.

Thanks @mpouraryan for sharing this information.

Re: 5G Catch Up
@Akkineni...Good point, and very reminescent of the birth of cable's involvement in data. They rushed a fast generation and subsequently started the DOCSIS program. First moves into a space are very valuable.

5G Catch Up
  • Arrive at an accelerated pace due to competitive pressures.

I would say 'Race Up' is the name of the game here. Everyone is just trying to push thsi out asap, though there could be issues for the first cut around. But that is not going to stop or make these mobile companies slow down. Instead they would be out with a version which would later be refined.

I wonder how T-Mobile is planning 5G...We didn't get to hear them here.
