Service Provider
"They protected the citizens from having their asset (the public right of way) used to service only the wealthy. "Google fiber has turned the franchise world upside down. For the first time since the commercialization of the Internet in the areas where Google Fiber is being deployed, the digital divide is growing. Google Fiber is not a socially healthy or responsible model."

He made a great point. Many rural areas are unable to get the latest technologies simply because of their geographic location. I agree that the big companies only focus on providing the latest technologies to big cities which does increase the digital divide. These companies need to stop pretending that they are reducing the digitial divide when they are increasing it.

I would love to see startup companies that provide service to rural and low-income areas. Everyone deserves access to the internet and content.

That is awesome that is he speaking about Google Fiber cherry picking affluent neighborhoods. This is certainly not an equitable way to go about your business. But then, when you're Google, who's going to take you down? Who's going to challenege you on it? I'm sure they have some kind of PR fabricated, smoke-and-mirrors, white-washed mumbo jumbo reason for doing it. Though I would be willing to say the best challenge to such a venture would be to ask if you can truly call the product a success if you haven't even given an equal possibility to even to use that product. Just because it works to sell to affluent neighborhoods, doesn't mean the rest of us would find it feasible. They could then use that potential feedback to make a better product that could be marketed to everyone.

My thoughts anyway.

Interesting perspective and sounds like a great show!

His focus on the customer experience is a good one.  And I look forward to hearing more about his successful forum with multiple stakeholders coming together on economic development.
