Seen & Heard: Rovi Snags TiVo for $1.1B
This is very interesting about the DVR and I had no idea about this untill i read it. I know with the technology going on they will be great with thier service and the plans to make it great for the consumers. I also think that with a little bit of time they would be great with the plans and the models of the DVR systems.

Re: Sense
I don't have a DVR and PBS started limiting the streaming content available to non-PBS subscribers, so I'll have to wait until it's on netflix!

Re: Sense
Wow, I had no idea both companies had that many patent and I had no idea TiVo had that many customers. I thought the company was dealing poorly. It's funny that both companies has the same 3 letters in their names, ivo.

Tivo stock is about $9.98 per share and Rovi stock is about $!7.62 per share. Not sure if it is a good idea to buy either stock since TiVo was looking for a new CEO and Tivo only controls 2% of the market share. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for both companies.

Re: Sense
Great analogy!

(Which reminds me... I never watched the last season of Downton Abbey!)

@JohnBarnes: Very good analogy. I like the way you explained the combination by highlighting respective company's strengths and what to expect as a result.

Re: Sense
Me neither and it is good knowing that.

This combo deal with such a strong patent portfolio should only bring more and more excitement to teh programming world.

Re: Sense
@faryl, it's kind of like the sort of marriage that used to keep the English upper class in place across generations.  TiVo had a great name and history and was rapidly losing value with nowhere to go (think of it as Lord Blithering-Twit's highly eligible daughter, Decorativa). Rovi had money, market position, and in general a solid base with consumers (that would Midas McCapital's hastily educated son, Croesus).  Put them together and the offspring will have a well-known and well-liked pedigree, a fortune in hand, and -- as anybody in the telecom world should recognize -- connections.

Re: Sense
I didn't realize that there was a company with a patent on the scrolling programming menu.

I could see where the need for that is shifting/diminishing.

It's interesting that Rovi acquired TiVo and not the other way around.
