Re: What?!? That is a ridiculous stat...
That makes it even more amazing and ridiculous that 100 million sim cards are being sold EACH YEAR... If these sim cards also require some kind of ID to purchase them... that's a crazy amount of hassle for burning through a phone number. I'd think that they'd figure out some other way to get sim cards? Or create a software-based SIM card...? (like Apple and Google are doing now...)

Re: What?!? That is a ridiculous stat...
@mhhf1ve in Russia to get a SIM card you must provide ID - something like internal passport... but many people in former U.S.S.R do have multiple ID - burner passports- what they purchased in 1990's - period of Mafia wars... Now due to the bad Economy and Embargo Many russians saying they feel like 90's coming back... again...

it like person who you know as Ivan with permanent phone number... in real life is Michael with 10 years old phone number, who born as Dimitry in Ukraine but with Russian passport as his mother was Russian who ported her land line to his cell number...

and also new Co. what exist only on paper for few days only - do need new phone numbers.... to look legit ... for Flimflam...

it like before in India many, many years ago... you could get passport agent in Bombay - who could get you a Indian citizen passport no questions asked - in any name and DOB as long as you willing to pay him and pay bribes...

Diversification...
> "We partnered with Ozon, Russia's largest online supermarket, and actually became a shareholder in that company to learn about their online business."

That is an interesting business strategy that just doesn't seem to happen in the US much. It happens in Asia frequently -- where huge companies have very diverse business investments... I wonder, tho, if ecommerce investments will ever catch on as a telco/cableco strategy here. I think maybe telcos/cablecos here will try to get into advertising (via Yahoo?), but competing with Amazon or Walmart is probably not on the horizon.....

> "Russia sells about 100m SIM cards every year with a population of 140 million..."

That is indeed ridiculous.. What are people doing with all those sim cards? That is a crazy amount of churn.. unless everyone is basically using their phones as burner phones or something?
