Whoops
Alas, I missed the "service provider" fine print before I posted my entry.  Not sure a bank counts as a service provider in the telco context.  ;)  Oh, well.

Re: It Makes Sense
I think Google qualifies as a service provider carrier if for no other reason than Google Fiber -- and FB and Google both are engaging in mesh- and balloon-based systems to bring connectivity to third-world nations.

Not that FB posts have much to do with that, but still.

It Makes Sense
We don't readily think of Social Media companies as being the expers at social media marketing but it makes total sense.  I am in class right now to get a diploma in social media marketing and the professor often sites social media platforms as the best at their own marketing.

Re: Either Way Possible
"I have been on the prowl at my local community to assess how best to be engaged in social media so that folks can notify the city about issues and be notified in the event of an emerge..." I use the app "Nextdoor" for that. One night there was a helicopter circling over our block pretty late in the evening. I took to Facebook to find out what was going on - they were using a spotlight from the chopper and I was worried they were chasing someone, No one really knew until someone checked Nextdoor and all it turned out to be was a broken water main break. I slept much better that night than if I thought some crazy killer was on the loose!

Either Way Possible
I believe any social networking has both effects possible - Positive and / or negative.

On one hand it lets you build and present your personal brand, to be active and connected with in community while on the other hand it could lead to negativity and generate some damage. But it all depends on how well you manage, contain and present yourself is the key. That itself dictates what you could get into. As long as you are mindful and know certain limits i believe the positive effects would certainly oouweigh the negative ones. At the same time if one gets overly addictive and maintains no barrier in kind of information that is being made public, we never know what can come back to us.
