@Batye yes, I believe overall calling costs have fallen, particularly for long distance.

@Ariella  on the other hand I miss good old day when we have only landline and payphones... Now yeach year I have to figure it out who have a better deal... not an easy task....

@dlr5288  in Canada we have the same problem prices of cellphones and airtime keep going up... and consumers could not do anything... only to pay it ... sad reality...

Yes, good point!

Hopefully because they're saving some money with the cloud the prices will lower. That would be great because as of now cell phone prices are through the roof. I don't have AT&T. I have Verizon and those prices are crazy too, but my friends and family talk about AT&T prices.

@Ariella: Just goes to show... Everyone loves added regulation of those big, mean, evil carriers -- until they realize that the regulatory costs get passed directly on to them as consumers.

@Joe I don't know if it's theirs exclusively, but they certainly do apply it. Allt he promotional ads have some fine print about plus fees, rental equipment charges, etc. that means the price listed is less than what you will actually pay.

Of course, I tend to think that Verizon hardly holds the telco monopoly on undisclosed fees.  ;)
