Maybe that was during the decade after he got a Double E and before the MBA and management consulting. Impressive record in any case. And transformation doesn't just happen by itself - it takes someone who can push and pull and lead.

jbtombes, I think that is why he is forward-thinking!  Yes, he definitely has the Silicon Valley vision.

The time period you are referring to was not as fast, Moore's Law, but was equally as competitive - as that was the launching of the internet.  So as I see it, he learned the ropes during that time.

He truly has a great vision and I like the point at the end that it really means everything can change.

Silicon Valley roots?
He doesn't talk like a telco veteran, which is good - but he's been in wireless/wireline most of his career. Maybe his Silicon Valley roots go back to 80s and early 90s. How fast were things back then?
