Re: smart home vs smart phones
I am a Comcast customer and their service has declined steadily over the past decade but their prices have increased yearly. I would love to home a smart home and smart phones but am greatly concerned about security. I worked in IT security for 6 years. Thousnads of companies do not have basic security measures and wait until a data breach occurs before they implement any type of security measures. I will wait to see what all of these companies will do to gain the trust of consumers reading security. What are your thoughts?

More virtual things for homes - not just smart locking feature. We can easily think og remote start / stop of electronic appliances which may gain popularity once the readiness is proven. Anything to do with appliances would be real risky and hazardious.

Ariella, good points.  Maybe that will be an opportunity for Comcast to step up their customer service and win over those customers who don't have a favorable impression with their service.  They can do it the old fashioned way and earn it.

@DHagar yes, a compnay can't take it for granted that customers will stay with them just for convenience of bundled services. They will still demand service. I know for myself that I've left companies -- even when I still had time on a contract -- due to very poor service.

Ariella, good points about the view on Comcast.  As I see it, one component is the bundling of services - which is a key advantage.  The second component then is the service - and that will be where Comcast will have to compete with the other service platforms.

Re: home automation & security
dir5288, I think that is one of the points that may be inhibiting full customer adoption of Smart technology as well.

This is another opportunity for the service providers.  The ability to manage the security and privacy will be key.  That's another point for those who put together a good package.

And, as Mike points out, you have monitoring companies like ADT that have experience and trust with security.

So I would say that this issue will be one where consumers will need to become educated about the various options and make wise choices

Re: home automation & security
Does anyone else think that having SMART features in homes is a bit scary? I fully believe that as technology advances that we are surely heading that way & I'm also a lover of technology, but what happeneds when the home becomes totally technologically run? Already with cell phone use there's a huge change in the younger generation. It's scares me to think what might happen.

Re: home automation & security
Which is exactly Comcast, Verizon, AT&T's selling point. And you get their techs to install a system instead of bringing somethign home from Lowe's and doing it yourself. But there does seem to be too many products/offerings out there, so maybe we'll some drop by the wayside.

Of course, ADT can say it's been doing security much longer than the new entrants.

Re: home automation & security
@Mike I suppose that all depends on how one feels about Comcast. There is an advantage ot have a comprehensive system because it should work together seamlessly. In contrast, putting together different coverages from different sources sometimes leaves gaps.
