Re: NFV Major Role in Transformation
@Ariella: Although every Cisco rep I speak to uses the term IoT instead of IoE... I wonder if everyone except a couple of marketers in that company have abandoned that term.

Re: NFV Major Role in Transformation
@Joe yes, businesses are still using big data. But I think in terms of cachet, it's been supplanted by IoT. So that a busines that 2 years ago would have touted what it's doing as applying Big Data is more likely now to couch in terms of IoT, or, if you're Cisco, IoE.
Re: NFV Major Role in Transformation
There has been a lot of punditry lately on the notion of the passe-ness of "Big Data" as a buzzword, and how it is beginning to die out as companies begin to realize that they now have much of their data under control.
...except, of course, those implementing comprehensive IoT solutions. Their data is HUGE.
...and, of course, the life sciences and financial services sectors. Their data is gargantuan and often nearly unmanageable what with the oppressive regulatory regimes those areas face (particularly the latter).

I was even more suprised to see that Devops was even lower, given that there's been so many announcements of carriers trying to change their culture with a devops emphasis.

@imorris Interesting, do you know if they have results in from the pilot programs already? Or are they still in progress now?

Deutsche Telekom one to watch
AT&T and Telefonica have been two of the most outspoken operators on NFV, but I think Deutsche Telekom is another big European operator to watch in this area. Their whole all-IP strategy, which entails running everything in Europe over all-IP systems and networks by 2018, is very much geared to providing a foundation for the New IP and they've already started pilots of services based on these principles in several of their central European markets.

@Mike, good points - thanks for further information.
Re: NFV Major Role in Transformation
And keep in mind that each communications service provider is different, and that they have to keep the current customers happy while they are implementing these changes. The promise of SDN/NFV and virtualization is real, but there are lots of moving parts. Some of the smaller service providers are going to sit on the sidelines while the bigger ones sort through the pain points.

Re: NFV Major Role in Transformation
@Ariella, true, but I believe it is accurate in that the true digital transformation will be most impacted by the continued development and use of NFV and SDN. The virtualization and networking compounds and truly transforms the digital capabilities and drives added data points. It makes data a "continuous" feed as opposed to siloed data sets.
