Google's New Assistant Is Named Automation![]() Google and the telcos have a lot in common -- both are grappling with massive data usage and both are looking towards automation to help alleviate some of the strain -- and some human capital in the process. Google is building a "Google Assistant for Networking" tool that relies on intent-based networking technologies to automate some of the processes used in managing data centers and other infrastructure. Vijoy Pandey, Google's head of engineering for data centers and backbone networks, said at MPLS, SDN and NFV World Congress 2018 in Paris that around a quarter of Internet traffic now originates from Google, and the humans are what's stressing the network the most. Light Reading's Iain Morris was at the show and has more on how Google plans to use automation to reduce human error and take away some of that human-caused stress.
