Turkish operator Turkcell has successfully transformed itself into a digital service provider, so much so that it is offering its over-the-top services to other operators looking to do the same. One of the elements of its suite of eight OTT apps is its mobile streaming TV business, a complement to its IPTV platform. (See Turkcell Invites Telcos to Share in OTT Success .)
Viewing habits on mobile are very different from big-screen TV habits, Baris Zavaroglu, Turkcell's Digital Media and Entertainment director, explained in a video interview recorded at this year's Mobile World Congress. By offering services on both platforms, tailored to how its customers use each, he says that Turkcell has built a business case around video that is based upon driving more data usage on its network.
