Huawei has reeled in Margaret Chiosi, who was one of the leaders of AT&T's virtualization efforts prior to retiring from the telco earlier this year.
Huawei's hiring Chiosi to an as yet un-named position was a major coup for the Chinese vendor, according to a story today by Light Reading Editor-in-Chief Ray Le Maistre. Chiosi was with AT&T for more than 20 years, most recently serving as a Distinguished Network Architect. (See Ex-AT&T Bigwig Margaret Chiosi Joins Huawei.)
While at AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), Chiosi was the spokesperson for the telco's Domain 2.0 virtualization initiative and SDN efforts. She was also a founding member of the ETSI ISG Network Functions Virtualization Forum and OPNFV - Open Platform for NFV, and was on the board of directors for the Metro Ethernet Forum.
Prior to Huawei, Chiosi was a consultant for SDN and NFV strategies.
While Huawei has landed numerous service provider customers around the world, it has been largely hamstrung in the US due to federal security concerns. Le Maistre noted that Chiosi brings not only experience from working for a Tier 1 service provider to her role at Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. , but also a broad base of connections due to her work with industry bodies and as a speaker at industry events.
