Liberty Global's advanced TV platforms posted positive results in the company's first-quarter earnings report on Monday.
During the first quarter, Liberty Global converted over 275,000 video subscribers into next-generation video subscribers, including onto its Horizon TV and TiVo platforms. Liberty Global Inc. (Nasdaq: LBTY)'s next-generation Horizon platform added 190,000 new subscribers in the quarter, including 100,000 from Dutch operator Ziggo B.V. , to bring the total to more than 2 million customers.
Over in the UK, Virgin Media Inc. (Nasdaq: VMED)'s TiVo platform grew by 80,000 subscribers in the first quarter to bring the TiVo base to close to 3 million, or 80% of its UK footprint.
Overall, Liberty Global lost 142,000 subscribers in first quarter, compared to 164,000 in the same quarter a year ago.
