Saudi Telecom (STC) has cast its lot with OpenStack to enable new virtual network functions (VNFs.)
According to a story by Telco Transformation Editor-in-Chief and Light Reading News Editor Iain Morris, Saudi Telecom Co. (STC) has partnered with software vendor Mirantis Inc. to deploy public cloud services based on OpenStack to customers in its domestic market. (See Saudi Telecom Pins NFV Future on OpenStack.)
STC's decision to go with OpenStack is a vote of confidence for the open source community that has been the subject of criticism recently. STC's Saleh Mosaibah, who is vice president of cloud services, is confident in OpenStack's capabilities, and said the operator will use it for all STC's new VNFs going forward.
