Huawei Outlines Big Initiatives for Digital TransformationsWith Mobile World Congress kicking off next week, Huawei outlined its five "Big" initiatives for the telecom industry on Tuesday during a press conference in London. Huawei's five focal points for the telecom industry are "Big Video," "Big IT," "Big Operation," "Big Architecture" and "Big Pipe." Services and technologies that are driving the initiatives include Internet of Things (IoT), a potential $100 billion video industry market and a $1 trillion enterprise cloud market, all of which represent big opportunities for service providers. At the press conference, Huawei also endorsed open platforms to enable improved collaboration in the telecom sector, as well as new solutions for 4.5G, IoT, 2K/4K and its "Safe City" program. While 5G standards are expected to be finished in 2018 at the earliest, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. announced a new lineup of 4.5G products, which are called "GigaRadio," during the London press conference. Huawei plans on deploying GigaRadio products commercially this year in order to help accelerate the adoption of 4.5G. (See Huawei Hits 4.5G Highway, Plays Down 5G.) "Digital transformation is a new engine for telecom industry growth, and it will also empower the innovation of other industries," said William Xu, executive director of the board and chief strategy marketing officer of Huawei, in London, "Huawei will continue to open up platform capabilities to help carriers to build an open, collaborative and win-win industry ecosystem to accelerate digital transformation."
